The Mela family now has about eight thousand trees, arranged at different altitudes to obtain different olive varieties to be used for processing oil and other Frantoio products. The company, in fact, not only produces olive oil, but also a series of organic products, from pickles to organic products, and other typical specialties of Liguria.
The care of the olive trees and the olive harvest are still done by hand. The Taggiasca olive, typical of this region, is harvested shortly before reaching full ripeness. Subsequently cold pressed using yesterday the gumbo, a particular stone, today modern machinery, with particular attention to the processing to preserve the numerous antioxidants and vitamins of the fruit. The cold pressing, in fact, allows to obtain a fragrant and natural oil.
Frantoio Sant'Agata has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Ercole Olivario achieved in 1996 in the "Light Fruity" category, with the Great Mention certificate of honor at the "Leone d'Oro" in 2001 and 2010; 1st classified for the Bologna Yellow Gold packaging in 2007 and with the recognition in 2004-2007 by the Los Angeles Country Fair Olive Oil of the world the Olive Oil Oscar.
